I know you’ve all been anxiously awaiting the selection of names, so without further ado….okay a bit more ado, ’cause you need to know the process:

Plan A
I agreed to do the name pick thinking, “hey, i’ll make a fun game out of it”. So, being a flash developer, i set about making a wheel-of-fortune style game. built the wheel, set up the random selection logic, built the spinning animation, and…the wheel didn’t land on the correct “chosen” name. hmmm…..So after about 30 minutes of troubleshooting, and not figuring out WHY it wasn’t landing right, i moved on to Plan B.

Plan B
Next i figured, “hey, i’m in Florida, i’ll do something Florida-e to select the names”. The plan was to capture 8 little Salamanders (and if you’ve ever been here, you know that would be the easy part of the plan!) Then i would write everyones name on a piece of paper, tie it to the tail of a salamander, then run a series of [at least 8] races in which the name tied to the tail of the winner would buy for the name tied to the tail of the 2nd place finisher. Well, after a bit of sleep i realized that this was a pretty huge waste of time to just pick names for Christmas presents. So, on to Plan C.

Plan C
I already had the random pick logic from my failed Wheel-of-Fortune game. True the spinning didn’t work right, but the randomness of the selections did. So i decided to just let it run and pick the names for me. Guess you’ll just have to trust that it did it’s thing and i didn’t throw in any bias. I did have to re-run it 2 times because at first eric got his own name, and the second time he got his wife’s (though i guess i could have saved him from having to buy an extra gift if i kept that result). Anyway, ffi anyone has a major issue with the name they were given (not the name their parents gave them, ’cause by this point, i hope you all are okay with your name), but the name they were randomly selected to buy a Christmas present for, feel free to trade. Just let everyone know.

wdm2012 – starting to come back. 7.09 mi run in 1:21.49 (11:32 pace). Slow, but my calf held up, and legs felt better at end than the start.
